ActivitiesWORLD AIDS DAY BREAKFAST Every year, this is the day to pause and reflect, to remember those who have died from AIDS, and to commit ourselves that, in losing them, we will do what we can so that these losses do not continue. HIV continues to rise throughout the world. In these tough economic times, we have to remind ourselves that prevention is always cheaper than treatment. We invite and encourage all people to take this day to learn more and to take action. Talk to your family about HIV. Get tested. Educate your medical provider about offering HIV-testing to others. In addition, please join us for our annual World AIDS Day Breakfast. For information or to order tickets, e-mail Suzie Goering at suziemosaic@gmail.com or by phone at 630-699-1827. or Brad Ogilvie at brad@mosaicinitiative.org. PAST EVENTS Video to: HIV and Morality Panel Discussion HIV and Morality Panel Discussion Since the beginning of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, Morality and Theology have been both driving forces and inhibiting forces in the global response to the pandemic. Now, as increasing numbers of people become aware of the devastation that has been and will continue to be the result of the virus that remains largely unchecked all over the world, including here in our region, Morality continues to direct how, when and where people respond to the pandemic. On Thursday, September 20, Wheaton-based The Mosaic Initiative, with support from Wheaton College’s Center for Applied Christian Ethics (C.A.C.E.) will be holding a panel discussion called “HIV and Morality”. People representing a variety of Christian faiths, including Evangelical, United Church of Christ, and Pentecostal, will be on the panel answering questions about how their faith and beliefs have opened doors to respond to HIV/AIDS, and how these same beliefs may have challenged them. “The goal of the evening”, says Brad Ogilvie, Founder of The Mosaic Initiative and organizer of the event, “is to bring people together, share and hold gently all of our experiences, and ultimately develop partnerships that are respectful of our differences but can also transcend them – if only for a while – so that we can effectively stop the spread of the pandemic while we continue to reach out to all those everywhere in the world who have HIV.” As of August 22, the list of participating panelists include: · Chip Huber, Wheaton Academy · Cindy Judge, Wheaton Bible Church · Ruth Bell-Olsson, Mars Hill Bible Church · Bishop John Selders, Amistad UCC, Hartford, CT · Rev. Deborah Lake, Sankofaway Spiritual Services, Chicago · Dr. Becky Kuhn, MD, practitioner in Long Beach CA and S. Africa · Harry Knox, Human Rights Campaign (more about each of these speakers will be available soon). This panel discussion will be held at Barrows Auditorium from 7-9PM. Dr. Madeleine Van Hecke, Adjunct Professor at North Central College, and author of the recent publication “Blind Spots: Why Smart People Do Dumb Things” will be the moderator. ----------------------------------- We will continue to fill this space with new & post calendar of events for 2009. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
